Vincent Crisostomo: I have lived with HIV since May of 1989, and I’ve had an AIDS diagnosis since 1995.

Crisostomo: The Ryan White Program has impacted me throughout most of my…ever since it’s been in effect. Like, I remember meeting Ryan White in the ’90s and thinking, “Wow, it must be so hard for a kid.”
Close-up camera view of Crisostomo.  Crisostomo: But then this program came up that beared his name, and you know, it’s followed me through San Francisco; it's followed me through Guam, where we were able to do some advocacy.

Crisostomo: I got into mental health services, got into taking medication after being resistant to almost everything that was available.

Crisostomo: “So, what are the stories that we want to tell?” Many people who were HIV positive in my generation was like, “You know, I’ve got HIV.”

Crisostomo: I think we owe it to those of us who—to those who did not survive—like, to make the most of our lives. So, I just tell people, “So, what is the story you want to tell?”

Crisostomo: “What are you doing to make that happen? And how can I help?” And I have three things that I live by. The first one is: Love heals—So put some love on it, whatever it is. How can I help? And the third thing is: Where do we go…where do you want to go from here? So basically, it saved my life. So, I guess the Ryan White Program has kept me alive, and I’m very grateful for that
