Description: Percentage of patients, regardless of age, with a diagnosis of HIV who were prescribed HIV antiretroviral therapy (ART) and who had a fasting lipid1 panel during the measurement year

Numerator: Number of patients who had a fasting lipid panel in the measurement year

Denominator: Number of patients, regardless of age, who are prescribed HIV ART and who had a medical visit with a provider with prescribing privileges2 at least once in the measurement year

Patient Exclusions: None

Data Elements:

  1. Does the patient, regardless of age, have a diagnosis of HIV? (Y/N)
    1. If yes, did the patient have at least one medical visit during the measurement year? (Y/N)
      1. If yes, was the client prescribed HIV ART during the measurement year?(Y/N)
        1. If yes, did the patient have a fasting lipid panel during the measurement year? (Y/N)

National goals, target, or benchmarks for comparison

The HIV Quality Measures (HIVQM) Module is a tool within the Ryan White HIV/AIDS Services Report portal. It allows recipients to enter aggregate data specific to HRSA HAB Performance Measures. The HIVQM Module allows recipients to conduct point-in-time benchmarking across Ryan White HIV/AIDS Programs that use the module.

Adult guidelines

Fasting lipid profile should be monitored for patients at the following points: entry into care; 1-3 months after ART initiation or modification; every 12 months (if normal at last measurement but cardiovascular risk exits); and every five years or if clinically indicated (if normal at baseline).3

Pediatric guidelines

Lipid Panel should be monitored for children during the following points of care: at entry to care; initiation of ART; and every 6-12 months.4
